PUZZLE HUNT

This Easter Puzzle Hunt is Fun to do alone -
or mixed in with all the candy filled Eggs!

I found this great puzzle of Samuel the Lamanite a Book of Mormon Prophet at Deseret Book Store.  I was so happy to find it only had 12 pieces.
Thus I plan to scatter in a few candy filled eggs and do a mini hunt this Monday for our Family Home Evening Activity.  After the hunt is over, treats devoured and puzzle assembled it will be a great opportunity to discuss the prophecy that Samuel the Lamanite gave about the Savior's Birth and then his Death and Resurrection.

Here is a PDF of simple instructions:

Consider the Blessings

For FHE  - Why not.....   CONSIDER THE BLESSINGS?

Last Conference President Monson told us to "Consider the Blessings"
he recommendeds that we inventory our lives.
This would be a FUN lesson/activity to do for FHE.

  1. Read a few selections for his talk
  2. Decide to do what he recommends
  3. Get our colored pens & crayons and sit around the table
  4. Pull out a few bowls of fun snacks to eat as each of you write/draw
  5. Before you close maybe share a couple things written down

DECEMBER CALENDAR

Don't let the hustle and bustle push out the most important things you do with your family!  Get organized with this calendar!

Nov 1, 2011

ORGANIZE the BEST parts of your LIFE!

To Start the Month out right...
I decided to ORGANIZE some of THE BEST things we do as a Family - and thus increase our chances for Success!!

This chart combines:
  1. FHE - assignments for the month
  2. Book of Mormon - reading each day and crossing it off
  3. Conference Ensign Study - using Sunday to read a little from the Conference Ensign - or have it read to you (I then will furnish a small insentive/treat) (this can also be a prep. for FHE time too)
  4. Scripture Memorizing - Plan ahead on which scriptures you want to memorize as a family (start with one, resite it once a day -dinner, family prayer, before school, etc)
Half the time it's all in organization !:)
Here is our chart you are welcome to download and print - I will continue posting one for each month a couple days before the new month arrives!:)

PRIDE - a great lesson about Pride

Pres. Uchtdorf teaches a great lesson - telling us that we are all on God's Team !

Have the whole family come to this lesson geared up in their favorite sports apparel!  Jerseys, uniforms of all kinds will set the stage for a memorable lesson!
And lead easily to a fun activity afterwards!

Reading the Entire Book of Mormon

In 2011 the Primary theme is Scriptures.  Thus my children's Primary Leaders have challenged them to read the entire Book of Mormon with their family by October (2 pages a day).  In order to do this our family came up with this motivating system
and thought we would share:).

After reading each book we Celebrate!
We planned a different activity or treat to enjoy after each book is finished.  For example - after reading 1 Nephi my boys are excited to go to an archery shooting range to practice as Nephi did, after Enos we are having a late night with games and treats - since Enos prayed all day & night, after Ether we will get Butterfinger Candy bars since the brother of Jared saw the finger of the Lord, and so on.
Basically Celebrating the entire way through!
We are using the bookmark below in our Book of Mormons to remind us of our Goal!  Here we go!

Reading the Entire Book of Mormon

Print on cardstock, laminate and punch a hole at the top to string a ribbon through!
Use these to keep your place in your Book of Mormon!

G is for GOAL!

Use these simple cards to help each person in your family set a few goals.

Thanks in an Envelope

As I've thought of ways to
"Cultivate an Attitude of Grattitude"
I decided that this month we would say it in an Envelope!

  1. Each family member would receive a box of 10 thank you cards & 10 Stamps (buy them at the store or make them - I love to buy my cards at Target - little 10 packs for $3 and $4) (I like the small size cards)
  2. During the month they are to each write all ten cards and mail them. (at night they can think about what happened to them and they will begin to think of people they should thank during the day)
  3. Report at the end of the month your experience with Mailing 10 Thank You Cards!

How to face our Trials

This is a great lesson to share with your family! Take everyone outside, sit on the grass and have someone grab a bat and a baseball. Act out the first story of the boy trying to hit the ball. This is a fun intro to the lesson - then finish the lesson outside! Perfect for a summer's eve!

Patience

Patience is a rare and precious virtue!

"We live in a world offering fast food, instant messaging, on-demand movies, and immediate answers to the most trivial or profound questions. We don’t like to wait.

Patience is a godly attribute that can heal souls, unlock treasures of knowledge and understanding, and transform ordinary men and women into saints and angels."     - Pres. D.F. Uchtdorf

The Talents - a parable taught by Christ

Tell me the Stories of Jesus . . .
Christ taught many parables during his lifetime.  Here is a wonderful parable that helps us realize we all have talents.  What talents do we have? How can we bless others, magnify & multiply our talents?

Jesus Heals a Blind Man on the Sabbath

Tell me the Stories of Jesus . . .
"Have our children felt the power of the Savior’s miracles? Jesus healed the leper, gave sight to the blind. He fed the 5,000, calmed the sea, and raised Lazarus from the dead. Do our children believe that “it is by faith that miracles are wrought,” and do they pray for miracles in their own lives?"

Elder Anderson in April 2010 Conference asked us if we are teaching our children the stories of Jesus.  I wanted to start this by using Monday nights to gather my family and teach them a different story each week.  I will then post it here each week in May.  Hopefully you can use these as a springboard in "Telling the stories of Jesus" to your children too.
