Eating Smart at Holiday Parties

8 Fail-proof Tips for Eating Healthy
at Holiday Parties

Please note that some of these tips might be a bit contradictory. You should pick the tips that work best for you, and not look at this as a step-by-step guide to be adopted wholesale.
  1. Eat before you go. This was by far the most popular tip, and probably the most useful. Fill up on healthy foods at home.
  2. Place limits. Try a 2 plate limit, and a 2 drink limit.
  3. Plan ahead. Find out the menu ahead of time and make healthy choices, before you go.
  4. Drink lots of water and eat fruits and veggies. You can eat as many veggies as you want without consuming many calories. Just avoid dipping sauces and dressings.
  5. Have a big salad before the main course. Again, avoid too much dressing, and go for the lighter dressings.
  6. Log what you eat, so you’ll be more aware of it.
  7. Bring your own. If it’s a potluck-style gathering, cook something healthy and bring it with you.
  8. Just try to eat healthy most of the week, and relax when you are at social gatherings. This is one of my favorite tips. :) You don’t need to eat healthy all the time. This is the tip I usually follow, but you’ve got to come up with other strategies when you’re going to social gatherings almost every night of the week (I couldn’t help it this past week, but it’s not my usual schedule).
Thanks to: http://zenhabits.net/9-fail-proof-tips-for-eating-healthy-at-social-gatherings/ for these suggestions!

Tonight I am hitting the family party - the Menu?  Waffles, Sausage, Choc. MIlk, OJ, Ham, Potatoes, Syrup, Cool whip, etc.  Breakfast for dinner can be a killer -
so I'm looking for strategies...  I need Help!

What are your strategies for eating healthy (or not) when you’re out at social gatherings? Share in the comments!

Do you have a Nativity Room?

As you Decorate this Christmas -
Decorate with a NATIVITY ROOM!

My sister told me about her Nativity Room - how she loved collecting Nativities and decorating with them in one room.  I thought she had a great idea -
Decorate with the real meaning of Christmas in one special room -
one well used and well loved room.

Suggestions:
  • Designate one room in your home as your "Nativity Room".  Meaning, only decorate with decorations that have to do with Christ's Birth:  Angels, Nativities, Sheep, Stars, etc.

  • Take apart a calendar with pictures of The Savior - use the hole in the top to string a ribbon through.  Now pick a door in your home to display them on.  Tape or magnets work easily to attach them.

  • Frame Nativity Pictures.  Use a couple of large frames and place Nativity Pictures in them.  Look in Magazines or purchase one from a church bookstore. Hang this artwork in your "Nativity Room".

  • Designate a Children's Nativity Corner:  Display Nativities that are for Playing with!  Let your children, or grandchildren enjoy playing with a variety of sweet Nativity Sets!

Enjoy making this Christmas - The Best Christmas Ever!

Attributes of Christ

At this Holiday Time I think of the statement from Pres. H.W. Hunter:

"We must KNOW Christ better than we know Him;
We must REMEMBER Him more often than we remember HIM;
We must SERVE him more valiantly than we serve Him."

Using this list take time to look up these attributes of Christ in the Scriptures and learn more of Him, think more of Him and feel more of His Love.
