Get to Know PAUL

4 Stars - Great Middle Reader Book

These little chapter books are a brilliant idea for kids.  I really like the idea of bible biographies written with the intent to interest and teach children.  The book is beautifully done.  This book contains full color pages with glossy thick pages that feel slick and say high quality.  This is a series you will want for your home library.  I definitely felt like this series is a great overview for children and parents alike.
From the first chapter I liked it.  Clear, simple and easy to read.  I especially like how at the end of each chapter you get a short recap and outline of important events and people, basically a great little review.  After reading the story I feel like I understand Paul and his life a lot more.  This is such a unique way to learn about the important people in the bible.
Another loud applause for this book comes from the highlights which are boxes that highlight bible heroes.  Saying they are heroes makes you think a little more about the person and what makes a hero.   I felt I learned something – which is the whole point right?   I think it’s a great idea – get to know -  a bible character.

I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Isaiah for Airheads by John Bytheway

Ouch - I know, the title is a killer.  I mean it kills any interest I would have, but...

I've been wanting to dive into Isaiah and I need help.  My father-in-law gave the book a GREAT recommendation - and my husband just told me to throw away the book cover - so I decided to swallow my pride and read it.

I am so glad I did.  This is a perfect book for those of us just beginning our great adventure into the words of Isaiah.  It could have been titled.... The ABCs of Isaiah, Isaiah 101, etc.  Even a non- map person like me now understands where the 12 tribes lived - what Kingdom divided means, and on and on.

This book is written really well.  Organized in a simple to read set up.   The author is funny and down to earth.  His analogies make a lot of sense.  I am so glad I read this book first - now I have a basic foundation to build on!  For you know what they say,

A Simple way to Learn about Bible Customs

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a great book!  Easy to read with lots of information about bible customs you never knew.

What I like best is that it has a simple lay-out of one paragraph topics that have pictures and scripture references all right there.  This is book is for anyone wanting to learn more about the bible!  It's easy to read a little bit at a time and then put it down and pick up later.

It starts with Genesis and takes you all the way through each book in the Old and New Testaments.

Great for any age!

Jesus Heals a Blind Man on the Sabbath

Tell me the Stories of Jesus . . .
"Have our children felt the power of the Savior’s miracles? Jesus healed the leper, gave sight to the blind. He fed the 5,000, calmed the sea, and raised Lazarus from the dead. Do our children believe that “it is by faith that miracles are wrought,” and do they pray for miracles in their own lives?"

Elder Anderson in April 2010 Conference asked us if we are teaching our children the stories of Jesus.  I wanted to start this by using Monday nights to gather my family and teach them a different story each week.  I will then post it here each week in May.  Hopefully you can use these as a springboard in "Telling the stories of Jesus" to your children too.

FIRE IN THE BONES

The past present many pivotal people.  This book begs to bring before us one of THE most important men since the 1400s.  The life and mission of William Tyndale.
I had no idea William Tyndale did so much. I was intrigued by his upbringing.  He was thoroughly prepared to meet his mission in life.  S. Michael Wilcox did a great job makeing his story understandable and meaningful.  This book left me thankful, it gave me the desire to read outloud to my children from the bible, and it made me want to learn more!  Truly the bible is a miracle!  Open and let your discoveries begin!

Day 6 - Friday. Captured, Tried, Crucified and Buried

Friday was "The Longest Day".  Christ suffered greatly all through this day because of the love He had for us.

Day 5 - Thursday, The Last Supper & Gethsemane

It was the Thursday before Easter.  Christ had gathered with His diciples for the passover meal - The Last Supper.  Later they would walk to the Garden of Gethsemane where He would pray and suffer for each of our sins.

Day 4 - Wednesday

What did He do on Wednesday?  We do not know.  The Scriptures do not tell us.  Yet they do tell us volumes.  Thus today I wanted to simply take a look at his great life.  For He did live!  He spent His mortal life teaching and loving all He came in contact with.

Watch this wonderful video to review His life.

Day 1 - PALM SUNDAY

Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem ushered in the entry of His last mortal week on earth.  It is called Palm Sunday,
I think of how soon we will be upon His Palms, the palms of His hands, that He will  engrave us.
"I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands".
